Sally Barnes Returns to Homegrown at Virginia Park Lodge

Sally is heading back to Homegrown at Virginia Park Lodge this year, bringing her fish-smoking skills, stories and passion for our wild waters to Richard Corrigan’s autumn gathering in County Cavan.

Now in its third year, Homegrown brings chefs, producers and guests together for a weekend of cooking, conversation, workshops, shared meals and music. This year’s line-up includes Prue Leith, Angela Hartnett, Henry Harris and Robin Gill, with music from Mary Coughlan.

Following the warm response to last year’s demonstration, Sally will once again share the craft of smoking fish, drawing on more than four decades of working with wild fish at Woodcock Smokery. It is a chance to explore how salt, smoke, time and care transform an ingredient, and to hear the stories and lessons behind a lifetime spent practising that craft.

Her second session will open up a conversation about the plight of our wild waters and salmon, with tasters to enjoy along the way. For Sally, preserving fish and protecting the waters they come from have always been closely connected. Expect an engaging discussion about what is changing, what we stand to lose, and why these stories deserve a place at the table.

We’re delighted to be returning for another weekend of generous hospitality, good food and lively conversation.
