Leviathan Launches with a Powerful First Episode Featuring Sally Barnes

We’re delighted to announce that Leviathan - the new Irish travel and cooking series we first shared with you in February - has now officially launched, with a special screening and celebration held at The Fumbally Stables in Dublin earlier this month.

The nine-part series, produced independently by BYOC Films and led by chef, musician, and photojournalist James Gabriel Martin, explores Ireland’s vibrant creative culture, connecting stories of wild food, traditional craft, music, and sustainability.

Episode 1: Woodcock Smokery

The opening episode features none other than Sally Ferns-Barnes, founder of Woodcock Smokery, and one of Ireland’s most respected voices in traditional food preservation and ocean conservation. For over forty years, Sally has been a leading figure in Ireland’s food renaissance, and remains the only person in the country exclusively curing and smoking wild fish by hand using traditional methods.

Filmed on the wild West Cork coast, the episode is a poignant, powerful portrait of Sally’s life’s work, her philosophy, and her passion for passing on ancestral knowledge.

"It’s not about nostalgia - it’s about survival.” – Sally Barnes

We’re honoured to be part of this beautiful project. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Dublin launch - and to all who continue to support wild food, heritage, and the stories that keep them alive.
